Father's Day Success Story

Writing a Father’s Day success story

The Daily Courier: Lane Martin, 39, is the first to admit that when he started to work with his dad, Don, 69, there were fights – major fights. “To be honest, I hated the actual duct-cleaning work”, said Lane.

That posed a problem because Modern PURAIR® is an air duct- and furnace-cleaning business.

“My generation and my dad’s generation are different.” Lane said.

“My dad likes to get his hands dirty and work hard, which is great. But I’d rather work smart.”

That means while Don and the technicians do the hands on work, Lane is the entrepreneur, franchising Modern PURAIR® to Vancouver, Kamloops, Penticton and Calgary.

“We have a great working relationship now.” said Lane.

With Father’s Day coming up, the Martins are a father-son success story.

Don first started cleaning vents in 1969 in Calgary and in the 1970’s move to Kelowna, where Lane was born.

Don’s business in Kelowna was first called Modern Furnace and Air Duct Cleaning.

But after Lane joined, the company did a re-brand in 2007 to Modern PURAIR® and started to franchise.

“My son hated working in the field,” said Don.

“He wanted to find a way to make more money and grow the business. I’d say he has.”
