If you are a regular reader of our blog then you already know that indoor air can be much more polluted than outdoor, and because we spent most of our time indoors, we need to do what we can to ensure the air we breathe inside is the cleanest it can be.
The air that gets trapped inside our homes is constantly combining with new pollutants that we bring home everyday, from what we are wearing, to our hair, bodies, pets, garages, and numerous other sources. Eventually these pollutants settle on our furniture, floors, and floor coverings. CARPET! Your carpet is a great place for trapping pollutants.
When you walk over your carpet, all the dust and pollutants get stirred back up into the air and you and your family breathe them in again. On a sunny day, look at a beam of sunlight and see all the dust floating around. This is what you are breathing in, and that is just the particles you can see. What about the ones your can’t?!
There are a few things you can do to help keep the pollution in your carpets at a minimum:
- Vacuum Regularly: at least once a week, depending on the amount of traffic and if there are pets in the home. Use a powerful HEPA Filtration vacuum to get as much as you can out of your carpet.
- Carpet Cleaned: Having your carpet cleaned by professionals will help rid it of pollutants.
- Furnace and Air Duct Cleaning: Have a professional HVAC cleaning technician come to your home would ensure the lungs and airways of your home are clean and not constantly redistributing dust and contaminated air throughout your home.
- No Carpets: Having no carpets in your home would obviously solve the pollutants trapped in your carpet issue:)
